It all began with a leap of faith. At 23, Dom and Kate left the UK with nothing but backpacks, curiosity, and a one-way ticket to Africa. Though uncertain of what they were seeking, they were determined to find their path. Over time, they formed a deep connection with Africa’s vibrant cultures, stunning landscapes, and boundless opportunities. This passion inspired them to create a company grounded in sustainable travel and authentic experiences.
After managing eco-lodges in East Africa, they arrived in Malawi in 2007, ready to build something their own. The Responsible Safari Company was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: that travel, when done thoughtfully, can uplift communities rather than harm them. Over the next decade, they dedicated themselves to this mission – learning, listening, and designing journeys that connect travellers to Malawi in genuine, sustainable ways.
In 2014, they met Inno, then managing a forest lodge north of Lilongwe. Within a year, he joined the team, bringing extensive tourism experience and a deep passion for sharing his home country with the world. By 2019, Inno became the General Manager and skillfully guided the company through the challenges of the pandemic. Soon after, he became a co-owner and rebranded the business as Orbis DMC, reflecting its evolution from a safari operator into a full-service destination management company.
Since those early days, Orbis has grown significantly. What began as a small team focused on responsible tourism in Malawi is now a dedicated group of local experts and passionate professionals. Today, Orbis DMC operates across multiple Southern African countries, crafting tailored journeys that showcase the unique beauty and cultures of the region. Under Managing Director Inno’s leadership, alongside Dom who leads Orbis Expeditions from the UK, the team continues to expand—committed to sustainable travel that benefits both travellers and the communities they visit.
